About Kitoko
Kitoko is the fourth song of the album Soft, by Congolese artist Bibi Den’s. Soft was Bibi Den’s sixth album released in 1999. The album came after his much acclaimed Salisa, which saw the release of Tu me rends dingue, one of Bibi’s greatest hit song. With Soft, Bibi Den’s explored the zouk genre.
Kitoko (Beautiful) is characteristic of Bibi Den’s musical theme. Bibi usually tells women how beautiful they are and that he loves them. While love songs are the trademark of Bibi Den’s, this particular song is a very interesting one, because of its simple musical arrangement. I, therefore, consider it a forgotten pearl of Congolese poetry.
